1. “Play” A befitting start to my 60th Year

In an attempt to clearly mark, and celebrate my 60th year, I had this idea to list 60 things which I would like to do in the year - not necessarily huge things, but just things which I may have thought about doing over the years, and never managed to get round to doing, or things which I had previously done but wanted to revisit, prioritising friendships, or just saying “yes” and taking advantage of opportunities that present - so many different things of all shapes and sizes, some old ideas and some new, and some that I’m not even aware at this stage that they exist! Dave and I were at a book launch earlier this year, and one of the take home messages from the book was about picking up threads from earlier in life, that for whatever reason, you may have lost hold of. I think some of the things I hope to do this year relate to my lost threads 🀣

So, slightly ahead of the start of my 60th year, I got the ball rolling by going to watch an international T20 cricket match at Trent Bridge. I always remember as a kid watching cricket on the TV - not really sure how I got into it, but totally loved it πŸ‘ My dad enjoyed cricket, so maybe that was the influence. As I grew up though I seemed to forget about cricket, until now 🀣 Dave totally embraced this idea, and before I knew it had booked tickets for one of the T20 matches at Trent Bridge - England vs New Zealand. Helen, a keen and seasoned cricket fan, was keen to come too!

We spent the journey down with Helen “educating “ me about the England players - all that I knew was that Liam Livingstone was a good bowler as well as a batsman 🀣 We rehearsed the rules of the T20 game, understood the Poweplay”, and were set to go. And what a glorious evening it was ☀️

Sadly New Zealand thrashed England 😒 although Luke Wood superbly bowled out one of the NZ team - a highlight!

I totally loved the match - really enjoyed the atmosphere, the friendly rivalry - all seemed quite genteel! Really liked the fast pace of the T20, and that it was all over for just after 9pm 🀣 Think I’ll be back for more - might even try a Test match! πŸ‘

“Play” being the starting term for a cricket match also seems quite apt for the forthcoming year, and a befitting start to this Blog - doing things focussed on pleasure and enjoyment (perhaps some deeper meaning and purpose too) πŸ˜ƒ Dave and I talk a lot about the importance of play in life, and getting the right work / play balance - sometimes us being too focussed on the “must be dones” - maybe this year will be different 🀣
